Simply put phishing is when ‘gangsters’ send out very convincing emails that ask for your personal, bank/card or log in details or contains a link to a fake website that looks real and seeks that information. If they do it by text/SMS it’s called smishing.
Why does this happen?
Like banks and Government departments whose brand names are regularly used in phishing attacks, DoneDeal is a household name. Unscrupulous internet scammers use the names of companies that have a good name and trustworthy brand because they think their customers will believe that the communication they have received is from that organisation.
What damage can be done?
If you fall for a phishing attack by inputting your bank or credit/card details criminals will attempt to steal money from your account.
