Why This Policy Exists
This policy is designed to protect DoneDeal users from:
Intellectual property infringement (including counterfeit or pirated goods)
Illegal or unsafe electronic devices
Malware or harmful software
DoneDeal complies with Irish and EU law, including regulatory guidance from ComReg, to ensure listings meet safety, copyright and consumer protection standards.
Prohibited Items
You may not advertise or sell:
Counterfeit or fake electronics, hardware or software
Modified decoder boxes, “blocker” devices or equipment that breaches broadcasting or intellectual property laws
Consoles pre-loaded with pirated or unauthorised games
Boot disks, mod chips, game enhancers or custom firmware designed to bypass copy protection
Region-unlocking tools for DVDs or games
Unlicensed or copied CDs, DVDs or games
Software containing viruses, spyware or malicious code
Any attempt to bypass copyright protection or distribute unauthorised content is strictly prohibited.
Selling CDs, DVDs or Software
You may only list recorded media (CDs, DVDs, USB drives, etc.) if:
You are the rights holder, or
You have written permission from the rights holder
The product must be original and genuine. The listing must clearly state that the item is not copied or pirated.
Selling Electronic Hardware
If selling electronic devices such as phones, laptops or consoles:
Clearly state if the item is second-hand
Specify whether it is sold “as is” or without warranty
Ensure the item is genuine and not counterfeit
Replica or imitation electronics are not permitted.
Games & Consoles
The following are not allowed:
Consoles with pre-installed or pirated games
Services offering console “chipping” or modification
Devices or software that bypass a console’s security systems
Listings must comply with intellectual property laws and manufacturer licensing terms.
Buyer & Seller Responsibilities
Buyers
Ensure you are legally entitled to own and use the item
Ask questions about authenticity before purchasing
Sellers
Confirm you are legally permitted to advertise and sell the item in Ireland or the UK
Be accurate and honest about condition and authenticity
Enforcement
If a listing breaches this policy, DoneDeal may:
Remove the ad without notice or refund
Restrict or suspend the user’s account
Share relevant details with law enforcement where required
Users are encouraged to report suspicious listings using the “Report Ad” feature.
