The DoneDeal guide to buying services
Research the service provider
Be clear on payment terms
Research the service provider
- Do some ringing around to get quotes on the service you’re interested in buying. Is it a competitive price for what’s being offered?
- If the business has a website, look it up – especially photographers, cake specialists, etc.
- If they don’t have a website, ask to see samples of their work – arrange to see a DJ or band perform live, ask to see previous items made by the seller, etc.
- Ask if the trader has anyone willing to give them a testimonial as to their satisfaction with the service.
Be clear on payment terms
- Never agree to pay a deposit for a service of any kind unless you’re happy with the provider’s ability to deliver what you want.
- As with any service, never agree to pay the whole cost upfront.
