Selling on DoneDeal puts you in front of serious buyers—but staying alert helps keep things smooth and secure.
1. Keep communication on-platform
DoneDeal’s message centre helps protect you.
Be cautious of messages asking you to switch to email, text, or external apps.
2. Be alert to phishing messages
Some scammers pose as buyers but send:
Links asking you to “verify” your account
Messages claiming your ad is suspended
Requests to confirm details outside DoneDeal
Requests to organise and pay for delivery via courier and postal services
Messages via the Message Centre claiming to be from DoneDeal support
DoneDeal will never contact you via the Message Centre!
3. Ignore courier or collection scams
If a buyer says:
A courier will collect the item
Payment will be released after collection
You need to pay a small “insurance” or “release” fee
That’s a scam. Legit buyers don’t work this way.
4. Be cautious of fake banking apps & screenshots
Some scammers use fake or manipulated banking apps to show a false “payment sent” screen when collecting an item or vehicle.
Never rely on screenshots or on-screen confirmations.
5. Trust your judgement
If a buyer feels pushy, vague, or overly complicated—walk away.
A genuine buyer won’t pressure you.
