If you’re having difficulty reaching a seller by phone, there are a few common reasons why this can happen — and simple steps you can take.
1. Cross-Border Numbers
DoneDeal includes ads from both Ireland and Northern Ireland.
If you are calling across the border, you may need to add the correct country code before the number:
Ireland: +353 or 00353
Northern Ireland (UK): +44 or 0044
For more information, please see our guide on how to make phone calls with country codes.
2. Incorrect or Mistyped Number
Occasionally, a seller may accidentally enter the wrong phone number when placing their ad.
If you cannot reach the seller:
Use the “Send Message to Seller” button on the ad.
If you receive no response, report the ad so our team can contact the seller and request that they update their details.
3. Potential Scam or Fake Number
If the number does not connect at all or appears suspicious, proceed with caution. This may be a sign of a scam listing.
Always:
Avoid sharing personal or payment information over the phone.
Report any suspicious ads to DoneDeal immediately.
Review our Safety Guide before proceeding with any transaction.
Our Trust & Safety team monitors reports and takes action where necessary.
4. The Phone Rings Out or Goes to Voicemail
If the call rings out or goes to voicemail, the seller may simply be unavailable.
You can:
Try calling again later, or
Send a message through the ad.
If you do not hear back after several attempts, the item may already be sold or the seller may no longer be active.
