Keeping DoneDeal safe is a shared effort. Alongside our own Trust & Safety teams and technology, we work closely with An Garda Síochána to help prevent fraud, disrupt criminal activity, and support investigations when needed.
This cooperation is an important part of how we protect our users and the wider community.
How we work with An Garda Síochána
Supporting investigations
When An Garda Síochána contact us as part of an investigation, we cooperate fully and in line with the law. This can include:
Preserving relevant account or advert information
Responding to lawful requests for data
Helping to establish timelines or patterns of activity
This support helps Gardaí investigate fraud, scams and other criminal behaviour linked to online marketplaces.
Acting quickly on serious threats
If we identify activity that poses a serious risk to users, we can escalate concerns and work with Gardaí where appropriate. This allows issues to be addressed promptly and responsibly.
Sharing insight on emerging scam trends
Scams evolve quickly. By maintaining open lines of communication, we’re able to:
Share insight into emerging scam tactics
Better understand real-world impacts
Improve how we detect and prevent similar activity on the platform
This helps strengthen protections over time.
